Benefit of a Natural Childbirth for Mother and Newborn: A Personal Experience

As a professional photographer specializing in newborn posing and family lifestyle, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing many intimate moments in the lives of new families. But nothing compares to my own experiences of giving birth. Having gone through three natural childbirths without any medication, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the beauty and benefits that come with this choice, both for the mother and the newborn.

My Journey Through Natural Childbirth

My first two births were guided by the same midwife in France, a person I trusted entirely. Having that consistent, caring presence made all the difference. She helped me embrace the natural rhythm of labor, and with her guidance, I felt empowered and prepared. For my third birth, although I had a different support system in Finland, I carried the confidence I had gained from my previous experiences.

Choosing natural childbirth wasn’t easy, but for me, it was the right path. I could learn how working my self-control, understanding and managing my pain.

For my first two childbirths I was afraid. But, my last childbirth was amazing. With all my experience of my first two childbirths I could manage everything (sensations, feelings, pain…). And during the deliverance, the midwife wasn’t here, my husband help me to give birth and he “caught” our daughter. It was awesome, and these memories will be in my mind forever ♥.

1. Connection with My Body and Baby

One of the most profound aspects of natural childbirth is the deep connection you feel with your body and baby. Every sensation, every contraction is a signal from your body guiding you through the process of bringing life into the world. The experience heightened my awareness and allowed me to listen closely to what my baby and body needed.

2. Immediate Bonding and Skin-to-Skin Contact

In my natural births, the absence of medications meant that I was fully present when my babies arrived. I remember the overwhelming sense of love and connection when I could immediately hold my babies against my chest, skin-to-skin. This bonding moment is something I carry with me every time I photograph those first precious moments between parents and their newborns.

3. Faster Recovery for the Mother

Each time, I was amazed at how quickly my body bounced back after delivery. Without the lingering effects of anesthesia or medication, I felt more energized and was able to focus on caring for my baby and enjoying the early days of motherhood.

4. A Sense of Empowerment

Choosing natural childbirth gave me an incredible sense of empowerment. I felt strong, capable, in control but also animal ☺. Indeed, for the last one it was amazing to feel how much our animal instinct can come out!!! I read that in some of book but I only realized that it was true and possible during my childbirth.

That feeling of accomplishment stayed with me, giving me confidence not just as a mother, but in all aspects of my life, including my work as a photographer. Every birth is different, but for me, natural childbirth was a journey that deeply shaped who I am as a person and a professional.

Conclusion: A Journey Worth Celebrating

Whether you choose natural childbirth or a different path, the most important thing is to feel supported and empowered in your decisions. For me, these three experiences were life-changing, providing not only benefits for me and my babies but also enriching my work as a photographer. I strive to capture the natural beauty, connection, and love that comes with welcoming a new life into the world.

If you're looking to capture those precious first moments with your newborn, or if you want to document your family’s journey or your childbirth journey, I’d be honored to help you preserve these memories for a lifetime. Let’s celebrate the miracle of life together!
